Our conditioner moisturizes, makes brittle hair more flexible, and restores your strands’ vitality. One of the ingredients that help it make your hair so manageable is Caryocar Brasiliense fruit oil. This natural botanical has plenty of benefits when it comes to hair care, and we use it in our products because it’s a natural botanical that nourishes your strands.

If you’re interested in learning everything this oil can do for your hair, keep reading for more information.

What is Caryocar Brasiliense Fruit Oil?

The Caryocar Brasiliense plant is a small tree or shrub that grows up to 10 meters high. The top is rounded and spreads wide. The plant is native to South America and produces an edible fruit, which takes five to six months to mature and ripen.

The fruit and seeds are both eaten by humans and animals. You can use almost every part of the tree for food, medicine, or construction.
Some of the other names for Caryocar Brasiliense are the souari nut and the pequi. People in Brazil and other regions of South America often eat pequi together with rice.

The oil can be extracted from the Caryocar Brasiliense fruit for various purposes, including medicinal reasons, as a diuretic, and as a treatment for respiratory ailments. Caryocar Brasiliense fruit oil is also used in botanical skin and hair care products.

Some of the nutrients that are found in Caryocar Brasiliense fruit oil include:

  • Potassium
  • Fatty acids
  • Vitamin A
  • Vitamin E
  • Tocopherol
  • Antioxidants
  • Carotenoids

What Does Caryocar Brasiliense Fruit Oil Do for Your Hair?

One of the most significant aspects of Caryocar Brasiliense fruit oil is that it has anti-inflammatory properties. Whether you eat it or use it topically, it should reduce swelling. Therefore, it’s excellent for your scalp. With some inflammatory skin conditions that can affect your scalp, such as seborrheic dermatitis and psoriasis, this oil may be a promising treatment.

Pequi Can Reduce Frizz

There are other ancillary benefits to pequi oil. Pequi oil is also effective for reducing frizz, since it is rich in vitamin A and fatty acids. All cells need vitamin A for growth. Hair cells grow faster than any other tissue in the body. Therefore, vitamin A can encourage hair growth and development.

Deficiencies in fatty acids are linked with hair thinning. Eating them in your diet can help improve your hair’s structure, appearance, and density. Using fatty acids topically on your strands can also promote hair growth.  Fatty acids enhance the proliferation of hair follicles and keep them healthy.

Lipids in pequi oil coat the hair shaft, sealing it off from moisture and the elements. This helps restore the oil content of your hair and protects it from being invaded by moisture. The result is sleek, shiny hair that stays glossy and resists humidity.

This fruit oil also has antioxidant properties. It can protect your cells from environmental toxins, including harm from UV rays. The oil blocks damage caused by free radicals.

Lightweight and Flexible for Your Hair

If you’re looking for a conditioner that smooths your hair without adding weight, this natural formula with botanical extracts might be ideal for you. Pequi oil is lightweight and enhances your hair’s flexibility. Pequi oil makes hair more manageable and doesn’t build up leave residue. Therefore, it’s great for daily use.

Caryocar Brasiliense fruit oil is especially useful for curly hair. The powerful moisturizer replenishes dry strands, and curly hair tends to get drier than straight hair. When you use products with pequi oil, your curly hair is more likely to retain its definition without looking flat or frizzy.

However, you don’t have to have curly hair to reap the benefits of pequi oil. This ingredient will moisturize and protect any hair type. Plus, it has the lowest (ie. safest) rating that an ingredient can get from the Environmental Working Group. It is not known to cause any allergies or toxicity, which is another reason you’ll often see it in shampoos and/or conditioners.

Why Is Pequi Oil Included in Hair Care Products?

Pequi fruit oil has hair and scalp care benefits when eaten or used topically. Pequi oil is a rich source of oleic and linoleic fatty acids and offers high levels of tocopherol, vitamins A & E, and Omegas 3, 6, and 9. These properties not only protect but nourish your hair and follicles without weighing down your hair or clogging your follicles.
